  2. Explore, Manage and Fix ActiveX Controls, DLL & EXE Servers.

  4. COM Explorer is a unique  tool specifically designed to help developers 
  5. and system administrators to explore,  manage and fix ActiveX Controls, 
  6. EXE Servers (Out-Proc) and DLL Servers (In-Proc).  An Explorer like GUI 
  7. allows developers to browse registered COM objects and view information 
  8. such as CLSID, TypeLib, version information, dependency information, 
  9. file information and more.

  11. Misbehaved objects such  as  objects with missing files left as junk in 
  12. the registry are clearly  marked. A Registry editor is fully integrated 
  13. allowing to view and edit COM settings. COM Explorer is integrated into 
  14. Windows Explorer allowing to quickly register,  unregister, compare and
  15. view COM Controls using a pop-up menu.

  17. One of the most powerful features is report generation.   HTML or comma 
  18. delimited  text reports are  easily generated .   These reports include
  19. a list of the COM objects installed. Strong filtering and customization

  27. The success  of COM Explorer  version 1.0 and the excellent feedback 
  28. we have received from end users and press has proven the superiority 
  29. and uniqueness of our product.     To further improve the product we 
  30. integrated      new features  and  capabilities  based  requests and 
  31. suggestions we have received from our users.  Version 1.5 introduces 
  32. new  support  for  a  DLL  dependency  viewer. This powerful feature 
  33. enables you to easily detect missing DLL files that are required for 
  34. the proper  operation  of  your EXE  server,   DLL server or ActiveX 
  35. Control. "Bad" installations can easily be detected and fixed.

  37. COM Explorer includes the following enhancements:

  39. 1. A new DLL dependency viewer is integrated into the main screen 
  40.    allowing for quick detection of missing DLL files. Information 
  41.    about each DLL is displayed showing the version, location, 
  42.    file size and other important attributes.

  44. 2. The Inventory report was enhanced to include the list of DLL 
  45.    dependency files.

  47. 3. A new dialog (Find Missing Dependency Dialog) was added to 
  48.    allow you to scan all ActiveX Controls, EXE & DLL servers 
  49.    and to mark all the objects that are missing at least one DLL file.

  51. 4. The "View Object Details" option in the Windows Explorer popup 
  52.    menu was enhanced to include a full view of the Registry, 
  53.    Dependencies and general object attributes.

  55. 5. The main user interface was enhanced to allow better resizing 
  56.    capabilities.

  59. Why COM Explorer is a "Must have" tool?

  61. 1. Track problems
  62.    Many of the bugs applications produce end up being DLL/OCX version mismatch.
  63.    A bad install program (that does not check the OCX version) can hurt a lot 
  64.    well behaved applications. COM Explorer allows you to view the attributes of 
  65.    any registered ActiveX Control, EXE or DLL server. Information like file version, 
  66.    file size or date can help you track down what went wrong. Detecting missing 
  67.    DLL dependency files is made easy as COM Explorer clearly marks missing DLL files.

  69. 2. Easy to use & quick 
  70.    Anyone working with ActiveX Controls (OCX/DLL files) knows that getting them 
  71.    registered and unregistered can be a hassle. Both developers and system 
  72.    administrators often need to quickly register one version of an OCX and 
  73.    seconds later a different version of the same control. Working with REGSVR32 
  74.    for these kind of operations is OK but tends to be time consuming and is not 
  75.    very informative (to say the least). COM Explorer is integrated into Windows 
  76.    Explorer allowing you to very quickly register/unregister controls, view control 
  77.    and DLL details (Registry, dependencies & attributes) and to compare between two 
  78.    versions of COM files.

  80. 3. Cleanup the Registry 
  81.    Registering an ActiveX Control and then deleting the file leaves the Windows 
  82.    system in a mess. Visual Basic for example will display the control in its 
  83.    "Component List". The user might think this is a legitimate control. Applications 
  84.    that use this control will crash finding the entry in the registry but not the file. 
  85.    COM Explorer clearly marks out these misbehaved controls.รก Even better it allows you 
  86.    to cleanup the "dead" entries that were left in the registry.

  88. 4. Reports
  89.    The reports feature allows system administrators and developers to create a 
  90.    database of all the controls installed on a specific workstation. This is a 
  91.    very useful feature if you need to make sure that multiple machines all have 
  92.    the same set of OCX files.

  96. Developers and system administrators that work with ActiveX Controls and DLL/EXE 
  97. servers on a daily basis need a tool that will enable them to manage COM files. 
  98. They need a better way to track and fix problems than browsing the registry with 
  99. REGEDIT. Anyone that has worked with Active/COM knows the feeling of trying to find 
  100. out why a certain installation does not work only to find that the wrong MFC40.DLL 
  101. was used or is missing altogether. Tools like REGEDIT or REGSVR32 are just not enough. 
  102. COM Explorer will enable you to quickly solve these problems by allowing you to
